Introduction: Come to our little piece of paradise. Learn and practice Meditation from the Tantras as taught in the Satyananda Bihar Tradition, practice daily asanas, pranayama, chanting & meditation, and experience living a spiritual life. Learn how to meditate, and explore the depths of your consciousness through a wide range of meditation practices that will give you a firm a foundation for your whole life. Suitable for beginners and adepts. Along side our daily classes, we offer a variety of workshops. In our ashram we follow ‘simple living and high thinking’ along with organic farming and our Play School. We are not a resort, guest house or a hostel. Our ashram holds an open, loving atmosphere of diverse individuals who function much like a spiritual family. We eat, chant, meditate, sing, learn, work, and play together.

Itinerary:

The spirit to self-realization does not lie in the outside world, turn and look within, explore the amazing world within, and get to know yourself.

The retreat schedule focuses on one or two of a variety of Meditations from the Tantras from techniques such as Ajapa japa, Tratak, Antar Mouna, Chidakah Dharana and Mantra meditation (see descriptions below). You can request your choice before the retreat or Swamiji will help decide from the group present at the beginning of the retreat. Our program assists you establish a daily routine for health and vitality or to deepen your existing practice. There will be classes of asana, pranayama  and Mantra chanting which are suitable for all levels to relax and recharge the body, mind, and spirit. Each morning flow will leave you energized for the whole day, while the afternoon Meditation helps you to reconnect with your Self, starting a transformation toward integration and happiness.

 

Choice of Meditation from the Tantras:

AJAPA JAPA – Meditation on the breath with universal or personal mantra, to calm, focus & purify the mind, taking it deeper and connecting with the rhythms of nature and with your Higher Consciousness. The breath is a constant companion and faithful friend.

ANTAR MOUNA MEDITATION – Witness your senses, your thoughts & emotions thus being able to stand back and control the mind by putting on to positivity and transcend it to experience and rest in that deepest inner, silent, empty space of energy & consciousness, the AntarMouna.

CHIDAKASH DHARANA - ART MEDITATION – Exploring & experiencing the inner mind screen of our consciousness and actualizing it thru artistic expression.

TRATAK – If you can’t keep your eyes closed, ope­­­­­­n them to gaze at a candle flame, sunrise/sunset etc to focus, purify and energizes and connect to the Cosmic Consciousness through seeing and breathing. Good for restless minds, childrens’ concentration, good sleep, psychic development and artistic minds.

CHAKRA SHUDDHI – Purify, balance and energize your chakras (energy centres) through breathing, visualization and mantra. A complete practice which also prepares for Kriya Yoga and safe Kundalini awakening.

SWAN MEDITATION – Devised by Swami Niranjanji to objectively view your personality, it’s Strengths, Weaknesses, Ambitions & Needs. A powerful practice to overcome confusion, find your focus, and create and actualize your future.

MANTRA MEDITATIONS – Experiencing Mantra chanting as Vaikhari (aloud), Manasic (mentally), and Upanshu (silently) through Likhit Jap (writing and drawing mantras), Chankramanam (walking) and finding the best way to benefit from mantras & their associated Yantras (geometric shapes of power). 

NAADA YOGA - the yoga of sound - singing thru the chakras, listening to the deep silence, sourcing the deep vibration.

ATTITUDINAL YOGA: becoming aware of and empowering our attitudes, with ancient techniques from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras; and using them to become happier and more loving individuals.

Daily schedule includes:

ASANA & PRANAYAMA Sadhana session:
The morning is an ideal time to connect with the body and breath, and calm your mind through asana. Asanas for fitness strength and flexibility, suitable for beginners, adepts and therapy. Pranayamas to balance, energise and focus. You will get a daily practice, adapted to your needs, that you can continue by yourself at home.

MANTRA CHANTING

Morning and evening Mantra Chanting sessions cleanse, focus and fill the mind with positive energy. In the evening there is a short group Meditation followed by  Kirtan (singing spiritual songs) or Satsang (spiritual discussions on truth). All are welcome to join or simply enjoy the vibrations.

KARMA YOGA: this is a special session where you get to participate actively in the ashram life, in the garden, in the kitchen, helping in the office, house keeping etc. Karma Yoga is the best way “To find the Higher Self you must lose yourself in the service of others” – this is Karma Yoga, Seva.

In ashram we maintain silence from 9:00 pm to the next morning 9:00am to help us be more aware of our inner consciousness. Please cooperate.

Alongside our daily classes, we offer a wide range of workshops for a reasonable extra cost (optional extra class): Yoga Nidra, Chakra Sadhana, Yoga therapy, Bhakti Yoga. Please inquire.

Weekly Schedule

SATURDAYS: 

  • Havan preparation-3pm
  • Havan (Sacred Fire Ceremony)-  5:30pm, followed by Prasad (holy food)
  • Optional Talent show (share your talent with us) - 7:45pm

SUNDAYS:

  • Sunrise meditation by the Ocean 5.30am.
  • Visit of Gokarna, beaches, optional swimming etc.

MONDAYS:

  • Courses start.

TUESDAYS:

  • Ganesh puja & chanting at 8pm
  • Optional movie night- 9pm

THURSDAYS:

  • Market day: 4.00pm- shopping/swimming
  • Dinner in town is optional. Please inform us in the morning if you are not eating at the ashram.

FRIDAYS:

  • Free Introductory Class to Satyananda Bihar School of Yoga (Oct-April) -11:30am
  • Sunset Meditation by the Ocean– 5.30pm

Location:

This training will take place in Karnataka, India. Shankar Prasad foundation is located in the village of Bankikodla, which is only five kilometers from the ancient temple town of Gokarna. There are scores of temples to explore, gorgeous beaches to laze on, markets to prowl, and weekly festivities to enjoy in Gokarna.

 

Accommodation:

Twin shared room with attached bathroom: Rooms in heritage buildings, surrounded by beautiful gardens and ashram organic farm. Have twin beds, attached bathroom with toilet and shower. Bed sheets and pillows are provided.

Dormitory with shared bathroom: The dormitories are in the century-old heritage house.  They sleep between 2 and 5 people. They are equipped with sleeping pads. Clean toilets and bathrooms are shared. Bed sheets and pillows provided.

Food

You will be served with three square vegetarian meals per day, plus tea or coffee. Meals are home-made by wonderful cook, who makes traditional, local-style food, wholesome, and colorful. Shankar Prasad grow their own rice and many of their own vegetables on fully organic farm, and sometimes cook lunch from morning harvest. What is not grown on the land is bought from local organic farmers in the village and neighboring town.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane:

Please book your flight to arrive at Goa International Airport (GOI). You can then get a train from Thivim in Goa, or taxi which Shankar Prasad can send to pick you up.

Arrival by train:

From Kerala or Mumbai, you can get any train traveling on the Konkan coastal railway, stopping at Gokarna Road, Ankola, Kumta, or Honnavar.

Booking/cancellation Policy:

A reservation requires a deposit of 10%

The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled

The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
